“Harnessing the Power of DBpedia: Transforming Data into Knowledge”

In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, the ability to efficiently access, understand, and manipulate data is paramount. DBpedia stands at the forefront of this revolution, offering an unparalleled repository of structured knowledge extracted from Wikipedia, making it an indispensable resource for industry practitioners and technology innovators alike. This workshop is designed to introduce you to the vast capabilities of DBpedia and its suite of technologies that are reshaping how we interact with the world’s knowledge.

DBpedia provides a wide array of technology to facilitate the development of data-driven solutions with maximum effectiveness and flexibility. In this tutorial, participants will gain insights into the comprehensive DBpedia technology ecosystem, including its various services and technologies. They will learn how to integrate and leverage these components to create innovative solutions. Level: beginner to intermediate. 

In this tutorial, we will cover:

  1. DBpedia TECH in the nutshell
  2. DBpedia Databus and collections
  3. Databus Use Cases
  4. Deploying your own DBpedia
  5. Showcase 1: Semantic Indexing and Search using DBpedia tech
  6. Showcase 2: CI and Databus publishing using Jenkins
  7. Showcase 3: Databus Metadata Overlay Search System
  8. Showcase 4: Terminology Server using Databus, Lookup and Archivo

Requirements:

  • Laptop: Please bring your own laptop to the tutorial. It is essential for the practical components of the session.
  • Unix-based Operating System: We recommend using a Unix-based operating system such as Linux or macOS for compatibility reasons. If you’re using Windows, you can either set up a Unix-like environment using tools like WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) or have a virtual machine running a Unix-based OS.
  • Docker: Ensure that Docker is installed on your laptop. Docker is a platform for developing, shipping, and running applications using containerization. You can find installation instructions for various operating systems here.
  • Git: Git is a distributed version control system that will be used for accessing necessary files and resources during the tutorial. Please ensure that Git is installed on your laptop. Installation instructions can be found here.
  • Databus Account: Please create a Databus account as it is required for the practical sessions of the tutorial. To create an account, visit https://databus.dbpedia.org and navigate to the “Login” page (click on the Login button located in the top right corner of the page). Then, click on “Register,” fill out the form, and you’re all set!
  • Main language is English (but individual help can be provided in German).

Important note: During the tutorial, you may need to install additional packages or run certain tools or servers. Therefore, ensure that you have the necessary permissions to perform such tasks.
